Walmart US CEO John Furner Reveals How He Was Talked Into Buying Vizio

Walmart has big ambitions for its blockbuster acquisition of TV manufacturer Vizio, which might not have happened without chief growth officer Seth Dallaire.

Speaking at the marketing conference Possible in Miami on April 29, Walmart’s U.S. CEO and president, John Furner, discussed the company’s $2.3 billion acquisition of Vizio that closed in December, noting that Dallaire played a major role in the retailer’s M&A decision.

Dallaire first made his case to Furner a few years ago while browsing the TV section of a Walmart store. While looking at the Vizio TVs sold in the store, Dallaire suggested Walmart could invest in a non-retail business to bolster thin retail margins, Furner said.
