A Posthumous End to 'Oscargate'

In 1997, an agreement was concluded between Jennifer Young, the daughter of late actor Gig Young, his CAA agent Marty Baum and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. There was only one catch; it was not to take effect until Baum died.

That happened earlier this month, and so now, for an agreed upon period of 48 weeks per year, Young’s daughter will get to own her dad’s Best Supporting Actor statuette, which he won for his work in 1969’s They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (pictured)

Brenton Garen at the Beverly Hills Courier revisits the unusual, custody battle background:

Baum, who obtained possession of the Gig Young Oscar after Young’s suicide in 1978, claimed he had a right to possess and display the Oscar in his office.
