Stiffed Freelancer Seeks Justice From Surface Mag
In early April, Quadra Media foreclosed on Surface magazine. According to the new owners, they aren’t responsible for any debts the mag incurred prior to the takeover. And that includes payments to freelancers. Harsh.
A Los Angeles-based freelancer who is still owed money for an article is fighting for payment. Our sister blog FishbowlNY has an email from the freelancer explaining his plight:
I’m a journalist based in Los Angeles, and I’ve been working with Surface magazine since they started… I wrote a story for them last January and they now have a new CEO, who has told me that he took over the magazine but does not have to pay any of Surface’s previous debts.
