James & The Giant Peach Cover (GalleyCat)Rumors have spinning that Sam Mendes and Nick Hornby may work on a new live-action James and the Giant Peach film adaptation. Disney is currently in discussion to possibly bring on Mendes as the director and Hornby as the screenwriter.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie studio already shot and released a stop-motion James and the Giant Peach movie back in 1996. The story comes from Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s book.

Here’s more from Variety: “The original book, both fanciful and macabre, was published in 1961 and centered on 4-year-old James Henry Trotter, who lives in England with his loving parents until his parents are killed by a rhinoceros. He’s taken in by his two cruel aunts and leaves several years later thanks to an old man giving him magic crocodile tongues which produce a massive single peach — which contains human-like insects who befriend James.” (via io9)
