HBO Films has selected two books as source material for a biopic on the Bernie Madoff ponzi scheme called Wizard of Lies. The two titles include Wizard of Lies by Diana Henriques and Truth and Consequences by Laurie Sandell.
Here’s more from the Los Angeles Times: “The Wizard of Lies will tell the story of Madoff’s $65-million scam and the destruction it wreaked on his family, friends and investors. The project has been in the works at HBO since 2011, when the premium network optioned Diana Henriques’ nonfiction book of the same name.”
Deadline reports that Barry Levinson has been brought on as the director. Three actors have been cast: Robert De Niro as the infamous swindler, Michelle Pfeiffer as Bernie’s wife Ruth Madoff, and Alessandro Nivola as the Madoffs’ older son Mark.
