Kathie Lee and Hoda Predict the Hottest Song Of 2016

By Brian Flood

Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb will ring in 2016 with their annual special A Toast to 2015! Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. If Kotb has anything to do with it, a particular song will end up being the anthem of the upcoming year. Before last year’s special, TVNewser asked Kathie Lee and Hoda what was their favorite moment of 2014.

Kotb quickly answered, “Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars. It was my favorite moment.”

At the time, the song had only been out a few weeks. Still, just as Hoda predicted, it will go down as the most popular song of 2015, according to the Billboard Hot 100. We caught up with the Today co-hosts ahead of this year’s special and reminded Kotb of her prediction then gave us her pick for 2016.

“I’m going to tell you right now. Get ready, write it down. Send it to the bank. Missy Elliot‘s WTF – Where They From. It’s Missy Elliot with Pharrell. That’s all there is. It’s this year’s Uptown Funk.”

Gifford, who covered her ears during this part of the conversation (because she said she’s heard enough about this song,) finally chimed in: “Is it OK to unplug my ears?”

“I really like Psy’s Daddy, too. Remember Psy?,” Kotb asked. “He’s back. Billions of people know it.”

“Sadly, yes,” Gifford responded. “Hoda is a visionary. She does have her finger on the pulse, sadly, of what is happening now. I’m still waiting on Doris Day to make a comeback.”
