IBM’s Watson Can Analyze Your Writing for Emotion

Is the main character in your novel coming across as too angry or too passive aggressive?

IBM has released a new feature for its super computer Watson that analyzes language to determine the emotion in the writing tone. The tool is being pushed to business people as a way to analyze communications, but why not see what Watson has to say about that email your protagonist sends to his mother? IBM’s blog explains how it works:

Building on similar linguistic analyses that power IBM Watson Personality Insights, Tone Analyzer analyzes given text and provides insights about the emotional, social and writing tones reflected in that text. Such insights can be used for a number of purposes including personal and business communications, self-branding, market research, public relations management and automated contact center management.
