barnes_and_noble_logoBarnes & Noble will close its Washington D.C. location. This means that for the time being, no major bookstore chain will have a presence in our nation’s capital.

Here’s more from The Washington Post: “Barnes & Nobles said in a statement Friday that it would be shuttering its last location in the District not affiliated with a university at the end of the year. The bookstore, located on the corner of 12th and E streets NW, was unable to reach an agreement with its landlord to extend its lease and will be looking for a replacement location in the near future, a Barnes & Noble official wrote in an emailed statement.”

According to Washington City Paper, bibliophiles have a number of independent and secondhand bookstore options within Washington D.C. Some of the local indie shops include Politics & Prose, Kramerbooks, and Capitol Hill Books.
