Obama: ‘The Only People Impersonating Journalists on CNN, Are Journalists on CNN’

In 22-minute remarks at his penultimate White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, Pres. Obama took his usual shots at the media, beginning with a hit on CNN.

Obama thanked fellow Chicagoan Cecily Strong for being the night’s host. “On ‘Saturday Night Live’ she impersonates CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin, which is surprising, because usually the only people impersonating journalists on CNN are journalists on CNN.”

The line got a sustained “ooooh,” then a smattering of a applause (likely from the MSNBC and Fox tables). But MSNBC wasn’t out of the line of fire: “As always, the reporters here had a lot to cover over the past year on the east coast. One big story was the brutal winter. The polar vortex caused so many record lows that they renamed it MSNBC.” Again, more “oooohs.”

The president’s “anger translator” Luther (pictured) saved up for a hit on FNC: “We can count on Fox News to terrify some old white people with some nonsense. Sharia law’s coming to Cleveland! Run for the dam hills!”

ICYMI, here’s the president’s full speech, which included a mention of journalist Jason Rezian, who is imprisoned in Tehran. “His brother is here tonight, and I have told them personally we will not rest until we bring him home to his family, safe and sound,” said the president.
