MSNBC Partners With 92Y to Celebrate ‘7 Days of Genius’

In December, MSNBC President Phil Griffin signaled that the network would be expanding its programming beyond DC and Beltway politics.

To kick this off, two weeks ago, ahead of ‘7 Days of Genius: Venture into the Extraordinary Festival’ (which begins on Monday,) the network partnered with 92Y to launch “Ultimate Genius Showdown” bracket live on the Genius hub website. The March Madness-style bracket pits the world’s greatest geniuses against each other; the ultimate genius will be revealed on March 8.

92Y’s Genius Festival topics include science, technology, religion, art, music, film, literature and business, making a perfect partner for MSNBC as it begins its shift.

In addition to the festival itself, the digital and social components, along with MSNBC’s programming plans will also enable it to reach beyond the liberal audience that has characterized its viewer base for so long. The network will help curate online conversation on the topic of genius through Twitter chats (#7DaysofGenius), behind the scenes video, photos, and social gaming.

MSNBC also plans to stream all of the ‘Live from 92Y’ talks on their digital platform www.msnbc.com/Shift throughout Genius week. They also plan to incirporate the 92Y Genius survey and Genius bracket into online interviews with thought leaders and celebrities.
